Each day, Fugitives were given Day and Evening Tasks that they had to complete to stay in the game and earn daily stipends. Tasks related to the Daily Neighborhood and were relayed to Fugitives and web Viewers via a series of Clues. The order in which the Fugitives finished the tasks determined the daily stipend they received.

HIDE/SEEK/NYC NEED-TO-KNOW

DAY TASK: Fugitives are assigned a task by COMMAND that they must complete before sunset. Evidence of task completion must be delivered to a secure dropbox, where it is picked up by Hide/Seek/NYC staff. Fugitives are awarded money and points based on the order of day task completion.

EVENING TASK:
After the rigors of the day task, Fugitives are given an evening task that often involves eating, drinking, and merrymaking. Like day tasks, evening tasks are mandatory, but the order of completion among the Fugitives does not matter.

CLUE: Before the task is revealed to the Fugitives (and on this site), clues to the task are presented.

HIDE/OUT: A safe house somewhere in Manhattan where Fugitives are permitted to spend the night. The Hide/Out is not accessible to the Fugitives between 9:00 AM and 11:00 PM (1:00 AM on Fri. and Sat.)

It could have been yours. Here's how.

On Nov. 29, we set three Fugitives -- Zoë, Chris, and Jason -- loose on the streets of Manhattan. They left their everyday lives behind for a chance to win ten grand.

To win the money they had to stay on the streets for 17 days, completing tasks we assigned them and remaining one step ahead of each other and a pack of pursuers.

They didn't do it. Pursued by the general public, Chris fell on Day 7. Jason met his end Day 9. And then, on Day 11, Zoe zigged when she should have zagged and got snagged.
What's next for our intrepid Fugitives and Hide/Seek? Stay tuned to the site.

PLAY ONLINE AND WIN

Anyone in New York City could have hit the streets to track down the fugitives. But if you weren't in NYC, or couldn't leave the office, there was another option; track the action online and send tips to a daily webHunter, who put those tips into work in the streets.

[Command delivered the clues and tasks to webHunters at the same time they were posted on the site. WebHunters received no other information from Command. That's was up to the internet viewers.]

The viewer who submitted the tip that led to a capture, split the bounty with the webHunter who made it happen. Jeremy Howard, of Little Compton, RI, won $250 by sending in the tip that helped led the webHunter to Chris, the first Fugitive captured. NYU undergrad Heide Agas submitted a tip that helped lead to the capture of Jason, netting her $500.
